Children First Foundation

From Surviving To Thriving

According to the Annie E. Casey Foundation’s latest report, one in four Arizona children live in poverty. And when families have limited resources, children often lack access to appropriate education programs. In 2017, seventy percent of Arizona fourth-graders were not proficient in reading and sixty-six percent of eighth graders were not proficient in math. The Children First Foundation is committed to improving these numbers, but we need your help to get there.

In fact, “getting there” is one of the greatest obstacles for underprivileged and homeless youth. Traveling over 65,000 miles a year, the Children First Foundation provides funding for buses, gas, drivers, and more, so children can attend the Children First Leadership Academy– a free public charter school that fosters success for its students by providing a stable, stimulating and supportive environment that instills confidence and eliminates the obstacles that might otherwise stand in the way of a quality education.

CFLA By the Numbers (FY2018) – Includes Federal Title Funding

  • Cost per Student = $16,502
  • Revenue Per Student = $11,241
  • Loss per Student = $5,261
  • Miles Driven per year = 65,000
  • Miles driven per year / per student = 271
  • Miles per Day = 361
  • Number of Routes = 5
  • Miles per day/per bus = 72

As public districts receive $2.64 per mile in reimbursement, which public charters do not, there is an underfunding of roughly $715 per student per year (as compared to their public school peers).

Without funding from the State, we depend on generous partners like you!

The Children First Foundation and the kids we serve invite you to support our Annual Children First Foundation Gala on October 19, 2019, at the JW Marriot Camelback Inn Resort and Spa. Your generosity will enable us to continue to drive our students to success.

Show your support and help us reach our goal in several ways: 1) Attend the gala, 2) Donate an auction item, or 3) Donate now via our website link here.

All of the students we serve live at or below the poverty line. In any given year, we can have up to seventy-five percent of our students living as homeless. The Children First Foundation provides stability and hope for children facing complex challenges by breaking down the barriers to education, like simply getting to school.

Please help support our efforts to drive homeless and underprivileged children to a better future!

The Children First Foundation is a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization serving children in kindergarten through eighth grade. Our goal is to tear down barriers to education for homeless and underprivileged students across Arizona.
